Past Trips and Special Events
Here are some of the Trips, Tours and Special Events enjoyed by members in the past year.
BIGGEST MORNING TEA – FOR THE CANCER COUNCIL
Organisers: Janet Hemsley
Venue: Mt Barker Baptist Church Hall, Victoria Drive, Mount Barker
A traditional morning tea for about 100 guests was held in aid of the Cancer Council’s Annual fundraising. Congratulations to Janet and Lyn and all the committee for their fantastic efforts.
It was a very successful event with strong support from local businesses for the many terrific prizes for the main raffle (25 winners!), a fabulous door prize, a quiz and other games.
Given the noise level, everyone seemed to thoroughly enjoy themselves staying on for catch up chats with friends and family.

BAY DISCOVERY CENTRE
Bay Discovery Centre (former historic Glenelg Town Hall) is a social history museum interpreting the cultural heritage of Holdfast Bay. The many exhibits are enhanced with multimedia displays including Step Back in Time to 1830 London; Meet Colonel William Light & Charles Cameron Kingston; Proclamation of South Australia; A special exhibition on the steps leading up to Australia's Federation, a Carnival display (did you know SA had the Luna Park sideshows before Sydney? The top floor had an exhibition of swimsuits over the years and at the time of our visit at the end June, we were lucky enough to see volunteer morse-code operators working the old morse-code machines and could send telegrams to anyone we wished to within Australia.
